III ÉPOCA. ERASMUS+ IPEP JAÉN. What would we like to achieve?

Why did IPEP Jaén apply for this project?

After a thorough analysis, our institution has pinpointed a series of necessities which needS to be amended with the help of the all the activities, plans and small tasks that conform this major project.

Among the many needs detected, upon which our project has been devised, we wish to stand out the following ones:

1)  The imperative need to reduce in at least a 5% both the rate of school absenteeism as well as  the rate of early drop out.

2) We need to better our students’ performance and grades, and particularly, those of the students who are interned in juvenile centers, houses for minors under judicial vigilance, and those from the local jail.

3) We also need to perform better our students’ abilities and skills in both French and English.

4) Besides, we have to start using new methodologies adapted to the recent social and technological changes of our society, by introducing new active, inclusive and more technologically minded methodologies which ultimately will help teaching and learning practices in on-site teaching, blended teaching and remote learning in our school.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT TO ACHIEVE AT THE END OF THE PROJECT?

In short: we wish to transform our school from top to bottom. With this comprehensive project, we wish to improve in the way we teach, the methodologies we use, by making them much more inclusive, adapting them to the real needs of our students and the types of blended and remote learning we offer, in order to reduce the rates of students who simply quit studying or turn out only once in a blue moon.

'Rethinking educational practices for adults, prison students and young offenders'

One objective of paramount importance in this project is to ameliorate our teaching practice at the local jail and with those students who are interned in juvenile centres and houses for minors under judicial vigilance, in order to provide them with the best possible education and guidance which will allow them to reintegrate better into society, once they serve their times.

For that to be achieved, we need to acquire better skills at ICT tools which are more suited to our type of students and our educational offer.

WHICH TYPES OF ACTIVITIES DO YOU INTEND TO CARRY OUT?

Our project will carry out the following activities:

1)   12 job shadowing activities for teachers to six EU countries: two to Portugal, Poland, Norway and Austria. Two teachers will travel to a different school.

2)   4 special educational needs from Secondary education will travel to one adult school in Portugal for one week. One of those will be, if allowed from a juvenile center.

3)   5 one-week or two-week intensive courses on new methodologies, attention to SEN students, inclusive education, remote and blended learning, language competences and attention to diversity in 5 different countries.

4)   Together with the Teacher Training Centre, a regional congress on prison education, young offenders and adult education in general will be held in Jaén, with the attendance and participation of 9 experts from all over Europe.

5)   A new subject will be designed intended for all those students who would like to become Secondary school teachers in the future.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Once the activities have been carried out, we are sure will have acquired the training and skills required to incorporate into our everyday practice new methodologies focused on the students, more participative and inclusive, with the help of the right ICT tools and apps, which will be more appealing to our students and will motivate them more to study, to participate in the lessons, at school and online.

This change will be reflected in the students’ results and performance and in a lower rate of drop outs and absenteeism. This improvement will be more noticed in the learning of English, because a noticeable progress is expected in this particular respect.

A much efficient, logical and productive organization of education is expected to take place at school with interns, no matter where they are from, due to, to a large extent, the proposal for reform, change and improvement which will derive from the congress and from the workshop that will be organized by the Teacher Training Centre in this respect.

Regards.
