CHANGING PERSPECTIVES ON EDUCATION THROUGH ERASMUS+
Are You Looking for a Fresh Idea for Your Next Erasmus+ Project?
Start with a vineyard.
A ready-to-adapt project concept connecting VET, climate action, digitalisation, rural entrepreneurship, languages and European mobility.
🎧 Article introduction: approximately 1 minute · Hover or tap underlined terms for Spanish.THE QUESTION THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING
What does your region already do exceptionally well—and who in Europe could help you do it better?
Sometimes the strongest Erasmus+ ideas do not begin in a meeting room. They begin in a landscape: a vineyard, a family business, a rural challenge and a skill that one region cannot develop alone.
A vineyard can become a living European laboratory. Students can investigate water use, biodiversity, fermentation, digital monitoring, export communication and wine tourism. Teachers can exchange methods. Wineries can define authentic problems. Local authorities and tourism organisations can connect learning to rural development.
The result is not a project “about wine”. It is a project about how vocational education can help a traditional European sector become greener, more digital, more inclusive and more resilient.
01 · WHY A VINEYARD?
One place. Seven European priorities.
Green transition
Water, soil, biodiversity, energy, waste and climate adaptation.
Digital transition
Sensors, data, traceability, mapping and digital storytelling.
VET relevance
Real tasks designed with wineries and sector professionals.
Inclusion
Accessible learning, supported mobility and wider participation.
Entrepreneurship
New services, circular products and rural business models.
Languages
English for safety, production, tourism and international trade.
Rural resilience
Skills, employment and stronger local European ecosystems.
The 2021–2027 Erasmus+ programme places strong emphasis on social inclusion, the green and digital transitions and participation in democratic life. The vineyard concept connects those horizontal dimensions to a concrete VET ecosystem.
02 · THE PROJECT CANVAS
VINEYARD 4 EUROPE
Vocational Innovation for Nature, Employability, Youth, Accessibility, Rural resilience and Digitalisation
Challenge
VET curricula and business needs do not always evolve together as vineyards face climate pressure, technological change and skill shortages.
Main aim
Co-design and test learning experiences that prepare VET learners for sustainable, digital and internationally connected wine-sector careers.
Target groups
VET learners, recent graduates, teachers, trainers, winery staff, rural entrepreneurs and learners with fewer opportunities.
European added value
Partners compare different climates, varieties, production cultures, VET systems and regional responses to common challenges.
Core outputs
Open micro-course, challenge bank, multilingual glossary, green audit, virtual vineyard map and replication guide.
Expected change
Stronger green, digital, linguistic and entrepreneurial competences—and more durable school–business cooperation.
“Do not start with a trip. Start with a need, design the learning, and then decide which mobility makes that learning possible.”
03 · BUILD THE RIGHT PARTNERSHIP
Do not collect logos. Build a competence ecosystem.
VET provider
Curriculum expertise, learners, assessment and pedagogical design.
Possible fields:viticulture, food industries, hospitality, marketing, ICTWinery or cooperative
Authentic challenges, mentors, workplace learning and sector validation.
Ask for:a named mentor and realistic staff timeTechnical partner
Climate, laboratory, agronomy, digital tools or data expertise.
Ask for:methods learners can actually useTourism / rural body
Visitor experience, local networks, heritage and entrepreneurship.
Ask for:routes, audiences and dissemination channelsInclusion partner
Accessibility review, learner support and removal of participation barriers.
Ask for:input from the beginning, not at the endPublic authority / cluster
Regional strategy, scaling, policy dialogue and long-term exploitation.
Ask for:a concrete route to uptakeThese countries are a plausible example, not a prescribed consortium. Select partners because the needs analysis requires their competence—not because the map looks attractive.
04 · FROM IDEA TO WORK PLAN
Six work packages that produce visible change
WP1 Needs, baseline and co-design Months 1–2
Survey learners and employers; map skill gaps; define accessibility needs; agree indicators, ethics, responsibilities and communication routines.
Evidence: baseline report + signed quality and inclusion protocol.WP2 Green Vineyard Challenge Months 2–5
Mixed teams audit water, energy, soil, biodiversity and waste, then propose feasible improvements with cost and impact estimates.
Evidence: audit toolkit + local action plans.WP3 Digital Vineyard Lab Months 3–7
Learners explore sensors, GIS, data visualisation, traceability and accessible digital storytelling—not technology for its own sake.
Evidence: virtual map + reusable learning units.WP4 Mobility & Professional English Months 5–9
Prepare participants linguistically, interculturally and professionally; complete workplace challenges abroad; validate learning with mentors.
Evidence: mobility learning agreements + competence portfolios.WP5 Rural Innovation Sprint Months 8–10
International teams design an accessible wine-tourism service, circular product or communication solution and pitch it to sector stakeholders.
Evidence: prototypes + assessment rubrics + jury feedback.WP6 Open Results & Replication Months 10–12
Publish accessible resources, train colleagues, run multiplier activities and help another VET provider adapt the model to its own regional sector.
Evidence: open course + replication guide + uptake commitments.05 · A REALISTIC 12-MONTH RHYTHM
Design → test → improve → share
06 · INCLUSION BY DESIGN
A European opportunity must be genuinely reachable.
Before mobility
- Ask learners what support they need.
- Provide accessible, low-anxiety preparation.
- Offer linguistic scaffolds and buddy systems.
- Plan accessible travel, rooms and workplaces.
During mobility
- Use a named mentor and predictable routines.
- Provide clear emergency contacts.
- Allow reasonable adjustments and rest.
- Check wellbeing without isolating participants.
After mobility
- Recognise technical and transversal learning.
- Capture the learner’s voice.
- Review barriers and improve the protocol.
- Let participants become peer ambassadors.
Inclusion is not a paragraph in the application. It is visible in participant selection, preparation, budget choices, mobility design, accessibility, monitoring and recognition.
07 · INTERACTIVE PROJECT BUILDER
Create your 60-second project concept
Use this as a conversation starter with colleagues. It is not application text: evidence, partner input and programme-specific requirements must shape the final proposal.
08 · MEASURE CHANGE, NOT ACTIVITY
Replace “we held a workshop” with evidence of learning and use.
| Result area | Example indicator | Evidence | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Green skills | ≥20% improvement between baseline and final task | Common performance rubric | M1 / M10 |
| Digital competence | 80% create a valid traceability or mapping output | Portfolio + technical checklist | M7 |
| Professional English | 75% complete a workplace simulation at target level | Recorded scenario + rubric | M5 / M9 |
| Inclusion | Participation and completion gaps are reduced | Disaggregated monitoring + learner voice | Quarterly |
| Business uptake | At least 4 organisations test or adopt one resource | Use logs + confirmation | M12 |
| Transferability | 2 external VET providers adapt the model | Adaptation plans | M12+ |
Targets above are illustrative. Set credible values only after the baseline and the partners’ capacity are known.
09 · PROJECT READINESS CHECK
Is this an Erasmus+ project—or just an attractive theme?
Start by documenting the need.
10 · FIVE TRAPS TO AVOID
Good themes still need disciplined design.
- Tourism disguised as mobility. Define preparation, tasks, mentoring, assessment and recognition.
- A solution searching for a problem. Gather evidence before choosing outputs or technology.
- Decorative companies. Give businesses co-design, mentoring, testing and validation roles.
- “Dissemination” at the final event. Build audiences, channels, uptake and ownership from month one.
- A beautiful pilot that disappears. Decide who maintains each resource and how it enters normal teaching.
11 · YOU ARE NOT STARTING FROM ZERO
European projects already show the sector’s potential.
